GENERAL:
Hello, I'm David Kelly. Most people call me Dave. I've been practicing law a long time, almost 33 years. I find it gratifying, because I can genuinely help people. I care about my clients and treat them with respect; and in my dealings with other lawyers, they have learned that they can rely on what I say. That's how I got rated "av" by Martindale-Hubbell, the oldest and most respected lawyer directory in the U.S. This is their highest rating. A few of my clients have also given me five star reviews at Yahoo.
As a young man I joined the Navy and served as "Legal Officer" in Vietnam for a construction battalion. When I was still in law school, I had jobs working at the State Public Defender's office and at the U.S. Attorney's office. Those jobs provided me with exposure to all sorts of criminal matters. Shortly after law school I went to work for a small firm in St. Paul, and was appointed to the Ramsey County Public Defender's conflict of interest panel for Ramsey County Juvenile Court. This provided me with an opportunity to defend young people in connection with all sorts of troubles.
When I opened my own office I accepted nearly everything that came in the door for many years, and did volunteer work many evenings at a free legal clinic. For over a decade I did part-time service as a settlement arbitrator at the Hennepin County Family Court, and also as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. All of this gave me an unusually broad range of experience. These days I focus on DWI defense as one of my favorite practice areas.
